Olympian Agnes Tirop’s killer husband arrested while hiding

The husband of the former world cross country champion Agnes Tirop who was murdered  has been arrested.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) , Tirop’s husband who is the prime suspect in the incident was arrested Thursday evening in Mombasa and is set to be arrainged in court.

Ibrahim Rotich who was in a relationship with the athlete was arrested in Changamwe, Mombasa County as he tried to flee to a neighboring country to evade justice,” read a statement from DCI.

“The suspect is currently being grilled by detectives at Changamwe Police Station for more details into the murder, before being arraigned court to answer to murder charges.” the statement continued.

The family of the slain athlete revealed that their daughter was in a strained relationship with the suspect before her untimely death.

Tirop’s lifeless body with stab wounds on the neck was found at her house in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County on Wednesday

President Uhuru Kenyatta had directed the National Police Service to hasten investigations and bring to book the killers of Tirop who has been mourned both in and outside the country.

Already Athletics Kenya has suspended all athletics events in the country for two weeks in honour of Tirop who represented Kenya at the Tokyo Olympics where she placed fourth in the women’s 5000m.
