The supreme Court has striked out an appeal over the former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonkos case giving Kananu a chance to be sworn in as the County Governor.

The Court on Monday struck out an appeal case he filed seeking to stop Anne Kananu from being sworn in as Nairobi County Governor.

“The court, we conclude lacks jurisdiction to entertain the application,” reads part of the ruling.

Supreme Court judges noted that with the absence of a judgement of the court of appeal the application by Sonko is premature and does not meet the threshold of the Constitution.

Sonko wanted the Supreme Court to not allow the swearing-in of Kananu as Nairobi Governor pending hearing and determination of his appeal.

Last month, the appellate court dismissed Sonko’s appeal of the High Court decision okaying his removal from office in December 2020 forcing him to move to the Supreme Court.
