The battle to succeed President Kenyatta in the August polls took shape with governors emerging as a key cog in the race for the State House.
In a race that is turning into a two-horse vice president William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, the 47 governors will most likely determine the next occupant of the seat of power.
ODM leader Raila Odinga seems to enjoy the support of a good number of governors, even the DP is not left behind. If anything, the two antagonists are almost neck and neck when it comes to supporting county leaders.
At least 8 governors who were once Raila’s best have so far supported Dr. Ruto in his quest to whiten Raila and succeed Uhuru as Kenya’s fifth president.
The number of governors supporting Ruto is said to be higher just because most of them feel intimidated to support the head of the ODM.
With that in mind, these are the Governors who have thrown their weight behind the DP:
- Ann Waiguru – Kirinyaga
- Mutahi Kahiga – Nyeri
- Salim Mvurya – Kwale
- Okoth Obado – Migori
- Jackson Kiplagat Mandago – Uasin Gishu
- Josephat Nanok – Turkana
- Hillary Barchok – Bomet
- Prof. Paul Chepkwony – Kericho
Narok Governor Joshua Ole Tunai continued to support the DP and many left guesses about his real game plan heading into the upcoming general election.
