Speaking in Kakamega County during the burial of Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa’s mother today on 31st October 2022, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga demanded the release of the Sirisia MP John Waluke who is currently in prison serving a 67-year sentence.
Odinga said the legislator has been unfairly treated by the Kenyan judicial system and therefore is calling for his release on bond and a subsequent dropping of his case.
Adding that Waluke’s case was a civil case and the amount he should’ve been ordered to pay or rather refund shouldn’t have exceeded that money he allegedly illegally received from the Government.
He said cases like those of Rigathi Gachagua, Mithika Linturi and other Kenya Kwanza allied persons dropped yet they are worse and therefore Waluke shouldn’t be unfairly treated just because he’s allied to the Azimio camp.
Raila started by saying that “we are now seeing people who were previously charged of various offences and crimes being pardoned and their cases dropped.
In some instances, active murder cases are being dropped and even a case of over 10 billion shillings is said to have just been fabricated.”
He added that “however, on the other hand, our people are being harassed, like honourable John Waluke of Sirisia.
His was a civil case, whereby they were paid after making an invoice.
