Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hit back at Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga after claiming that he cannot join hands with the ruling government.
This comes after Raila, at a burial in Kisumu on Saturday, insisted that he will not give up on the fight for Kenya’s liberation and that he will not join government as other leaders leaving Azimio have done.
“Mimi vile nimesimama hapa nasema wakati wangu wa kuongea haijafika lakini itafika na mimi nimesema sitarudi nyuma…kama watu wetu wameungana pamoja nitasimama imara na sisi hauwezi tishwa ati tuungane na serikali,” he stated.
In a quick rebuttal, Gachagua told Raila that the President William Ruto-led government is not interested in having him on board, further claiming that he will “destroy” the government as he did to President Uhuru’s leadership.
“Yesterday I saw him saying that he will not be coerced or intimidated to joining our government. Listen to me…We are not looking for you and we have no time. The last time he entered into Uhuru’s government, he destroyed it,” said
Gachagua while speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony on Sunday in Murang’a.
The second-in-command further affirmed that President Ruto has an able team to help him run the government, including himself, and that Raila should focus on his role in the opposition to check and balance the government.
“We have a president who can work and we don’t want help from that man. Stay where you are and do your oversight role. Let them correct us that is their job and if they do that they will be doing their job, “he said.
DP Gachagua had accompanied President Ruto to grace the occasion, flanked by Cabinet Secretaries Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u (Treasury), Alice Wahome (Water Sanitation) and Peninah Malonza (Tourism).
